Biodomino

Biodomino is an online game inspired by the famous board game Kingdomino®, an accessible yet strategic tile-placement game for two to four players. Winner of the prestigious Spiel des Jahres 2017 award, Kingdomino has become a modern classic of family board gaming.

Biodomino is an independent adaptation that reproduces the core mechanics of the original game without using its official artwork or trademark. This site is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by the original publisher.

Face fast and expressive AIs in a reimagined natural world. Here, kingdoms give way to biomes: Savanna, Boreal Forest, Ocean, Tundra, Taiga, and Desert. Choose an ELO level (step-by-step in 100-point increments) to find a well-matched opponent, or select a “talkative” AI with a playful personality to make the game more lively. No installation required — start a game in one click directly from your browser, on desktop or mobile.

How to play?

Goal of the game: Build the most harmonious biome area possible around your starting territory to score the most points.

Setup

Each player starts with a starting tile placed at the center of their play area (the biodome). Biome tiles (each made of two squares) are shuffled and revealed each round according to their priority value.

Game round

A round is divided into two main phases:

  1. Choose a tile: Using their meeples, players take turns selecting a tile from the available ones, in the order determined by the previous round. Tiles with higher numbers can potentially earn you more points… but will make you play later in the next round.

  2. Place a tile: Place the chosen tile in your personal area while respecting one simple rule: at least one of the two biomes must be adjacent to an identical biome already in play. If no valid placement is possible, the tile is discarded. Be careful: your biodome must fit within a 5×5 tile area.

End of the game

The game ends when all tiles have been placed. Each player scores points for every connected group of biomes: the size of the biome (number of tiles) is multiplied by the number of balance points (represented by the Yin-Yang symbol). The player with the highest total score wins the game.

Variants

(Accessible via the ⚙️ button in the game settings menu.)

  • Harmony: Score 5 additional points at the end of the game if you did not have to discard any dominoes.
  • Middle Land: Score 10 additional points at the end of the game if your biodome is centered in your construction area.
  • The Mighty Duel: In a two-player game, play on a 7×7 grid instead of the traditional 5×5.

Quick tips

  • Favor large connected biome groups over small scattered islands.
  • Don’t ignore turn order — playing earlier can be decisive.
  • Plan your space ahead — a great tile placed poorly can become unusable later.
  • Blocking an opponent’s biome at the right moment can hurt… a lot 😈
